They’ve carried our weight since the day we could walk, and without them, few of us would ever have made it out the front door.
Although they’re with us everywhere we go, rarely do we give them a second glance; they are our feet, and they deserve a little respect.
Unbeknownst to most, the feet are actually built around a unique half-dome structure (see Figure 1) that disperses the weight of the entire body evenly throughout its fascial network, just like the arch of a bridge, only using cables, not stone or metal.
Our soft-tissue system also allows the body to readily adjust to uneven terrain, producing balance, strength, and the ability to walk and stand.
Feet really can handle it all, including:
Rarely is there anything more upsetting to people than when their “dogs start barking!”
We abuse our feet on an almost daily basis.
When a lifetime of overuse and improper postural balance is subjected to one area of the body (the foot), its effects on our overall health and comfort can be drastic.
The subject of conditions related to the health of the feet can be discussed for days, so perhaps it’s best to just see a very direct example of what can happen if the feet do not produce a supporting structure.
Figure 2 illustrates the detrimental effects that come from disorganized and dysfunctional feet, specifically a failing arch.
Specifically, Figure 2 shows a whole-body malfunction as each part of the body compensates for the lack of support provided by the feet.
Many conditions of the feet can be greatly improved upon, and the overall effect it will provide for someone’s entire body can be astounding.
Whether getting a little bit of reflexology, or having your entire leg and foot examined and fascial restrictions released, improving the health of your feet will only improve your daily life.
